Licence's Degree in Computer Science
Training
The proposed Licence's degree allows students to understand and master all areas of computer science in order to be quickly operational while having great capacity for evolution in the profession of computer scientist.
Organized over 3 years, from L1 to L3, the licence offers:
- fundamental teachings in computer science and science as well as pre-professionalization teachings (oral communication, English language, professional integration modules);
- complementary technical courses that are increasingly specialized as the semester progresses.
The fundamental courses provide the basics of computer science and all the knowledge necessary for the profession of computer scientist. The complementary subjects, chosen by the student (L3 course), provide a good opening to the new technologies of Web and mobile development, optimization and planning, networks and telecommunications... Thus students master throughout the training their professional project and / or further studies.
The students can choose to continue their studies in a Master such as the one of Avignon University in Computer Science, or to orient themselves at the end of the 2nd year towards a professional exit.
At the end of the 1st year, the student can decide to go to the 2nd year of the mathematics degree of the University.
In the 3rd year, the student can choose to follow one of the two proposed courses:
- Software Engineering (IL)
- Systems and Networks (SYR)
Targeted skills and career opportunities
The main objective of the Bachelor's degree in Computer Science is to lead students to a Master's degree in Computer Science. In the first and second year the following skills are expected:
- To analyze, decompose and model a problem in order to create computer applications in the current programming languages.
- To be able to reason logically and rigorously to answer technical and scientific problems.
- To know the models and concepts of the functional elements of a connected computer system in order to understand in depth the computer solutions and to be able to adapt to technological evolutions or to innovate.
- To communicate and collaborate in a professional environment with the actors of an IT project.
Depending on the course chosen in the 3rd year, the specific skills below complement the previous ones:
- IL (Software Engineering track): Mastering advanced software engineering methods, to integrate, participate or manage a large-scale IT project.
- SYR (Computer Systems and Networks): Administer and operate network and system infrastructures to ensure their proper functioning and optimize their performance.
Common career opportunities for IL and SYR:
- IT support technician
- computer operations technician
- computer maintenance technician
- technical support hotline (hardware/software)
- technician in production and operation of information systems
- assistant project manager
Careers IL:
- computer developer
- computer tester
- web developer
Careers SYR:
- network maintenance technician
- system maintenance technician
Organization
One third of the Licence's degree course consists of lectures given in an amphitheatre with the whole class. The other two thirds are divided into tutorials and practical work for which the students are divided in small groups of 24 students maximum according to the teaching units for a better supervision.
