The Laboratoire Informatique d'Avignon (LIA) is a full-fledged entity of CERI. It is made up of teacher-researchers, research engineers, contract engineers and doctoral students. The LIA contributes to thes IT training courses and to maintain the high level of quality by the involvement of its teacher-researchers in the teaching provided in the Bachelor's and Master's programmes and in the various teaching teams. Moreover, the LIA offers the necessary support for the training of PhD in Computer Science of CERI.
Research activities
The activities of the LIA cover three main research themes:
- automatic processing of written and spoken language
- Multimedia networks and applications
- optimisation and operations research
These research activities, which are at the cutting edge of technology and have a wide range of industrial applications, add a great deal of value to the training, giving a very special flavour to the courses, particularly at Master's level.

PhD in Computer Science
Becoming a doctoral student at CERI means a three-year commitment to the Avignon Computer Laboratory (LIA). During this period, the doctoral student is financed on a thesis grant (the research of which is generally under the responsibility of the LIA) and works full time on a research theme of the LIA under the direction of one of its teacher-researchers. In some cases, the thesis may be carried out and financed in the framework of a partnership between the LIA and a company (in the form of a CIFRE grant for example) or a co-supervision with a foreign university.
