Conference - Women matter in IT, let's make room for them!

CERI news 8 February 2024

To mark International Women in Science Day, which this year takes place on Sunday 11 February, CERI is organising a conference on Friday 16 February at 1pm in the Amphi Blaise Pascal, to be given by Cécile Favre, from the University of Lyon 2.

Against a backdrop of increasing media coverage and numerous initiatives concerning the place of women in computing, it is possible to be surprised by a real situation that is far from satisfactory, particularly on the basis of an analysis of the figures. The aim of this presentation will therefore be to set out the factors that lead to the under-representation of women in the field of computing, to re-situate how the issues of gender diversity and equality arise in the scientific field, and to discuss possible solutions. The contributions of the humanities and social sciences will be drawn on from a gender perspective. In this presentation, the place of women will not only be counted through the presentation of figures, but also told in words: differentiated socialisation, gendered career orientation, under-representation, role models, glass ceiling, parity, quotas, visibility, etc.

Cécile Favre is a lecturer in computer science at the Université Lumière Lyon 2, and a member of the ERIC laboratory. She is an associate researcher at the Max Weber Centre (sociology laboratory). She is involved in the Lyon Master's programme in gender studies, where she holds various positions of responsibility. Her research focuses on business intelligence and network data analysis (social media, bibliographic data).

Meet us on Friday 16 February at 1pm in the Blaise Pascal amphitheatre. for the conference, which will be followed by a discussion with the audience.

We'll close the session with a convivial coffee at 2.15pm in front of the amphitheatre.
